Almonte Junior Civitan

Junior Civitan International is a student-led service organization for middle and high school students. There are 11,000 Junior Civitan members in 400 clubs in North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. It is the longest lasting program of its parent organization, Civitan International. In 1927, Civitan International agreed to promote the creation of clubs for students around the country and in 1932, some official charters were issued to Junior Civitan clubs. In 1939, Civitan International passed a resolution to adopt the Junior Civitan program as an official component of the organization

Almonte Junior Civitan, chartered in 2008 by the Almonte Civitan Club, is a community service organization for students in grades 7-12. Members meet at the Civitan Hall on the first & third Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 pm, beginning the third week in September and ending the third week in June each year.

Members are credited with Community Hours for their help with projects. More importantly, members learn leadership and teamwork skills and enjoy the fellowship of being part of a group that can make a difference in their community.

It is important that The Almonte Junior Civitans develop their own service projects, examples of which may include:

  • Helping residents at Senior Homes
  • Taking part in Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph
  • Collecting and weaving milk bags for sleeping mats
  • Supporting projects such as food drives and community events

The Juniors have run two major fundraisers in the past with the support of the Almonte Civitan Club. Examples include a Spaghetti Supper and a Mothers Day Breakfast. Fundraising allows them to support such organizations as:

  • Their school with fundraisers and special school projects
  • Community Remembrance Day events
  • Mississippi Mills Youth Center
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Civitan International Research Centre
  • Almonte General Hospital
